List of Hollywood (American) Films of 2023 – Selective Ranks

The United States’ cinematic influence, primarily wielded by major film studios collectively known as Hollywood, has been a pivotal force in the global film industry since the early 20th century. The prevailing style, classical Hollywood cinema, evolved from 1910 to 1962 and remains a defining characteristic of American films. While the Lumière brothers are credited with the inception of modern cinema, the U.S. swiftly emerged as a dominant player in the burgeoning industry.

By 2017, American cinema ranked third globally in film production, surpassed only by India and China, with an annual release of over 600 English-language films. Notably, the film industries of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, although producing English-language films, operate independently of Hollywood. Hollywood, therefore, stands out as a transnational cinema, often generating multilingual versions of films, frequently in Spanish or French.

In contemporary times, Hollywood frequently collaborates with the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand for film production. Hollywood’s major studios continue to be the primary source of globally successful and top-grossing movies. A testament to this influence is the list of American films scheduled for release in 2023, with the highest-grossing ones shaping up to dominate the domestic box office revenue rankings.
