Abigail (2024 Film)
Abigail, the eagerly anticipated American monster horror film, is poised to captivate audiences with its spine-chilling narrative and stellar cast. Helmed by directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the screenplay, a collaborative effort by Stephen Shields and Guy Busick, promises a fresh take on the 1936 Universal Classic Monsters film, Dracula’s Daughter. The movie boasts an ensemble cast featuring Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Alisha Weir, Kathryn Newton, William Catlett, Kevin Durand, and the late Angus Cloud, making a posthumous appearance, along with Giancarlo Esposito.
Slated for release on April 19, 2024, by Universal Pictures, Abigail unfolds a gripping story. The plot revolves around a band of kidnappers who seize the daughter of a formidable underworld figure, intending to secure a staggering $50 million ransom. However, their plans take an unexpected turn when Abigail, the captured girl, unveils her true identity as a vampire child. As tension escalates, she hunts down her captors one by one, delivering an unexpected and terrifying twist.
The film plunges viewers into a suspenseful atmosphere as the criminals, unaware of Abigail’s supernatural nature, find themselves confined within an isolated mansion. The storyline takes an eerie turn, revealing that the seemingly innocent girl is anything but normal.
Principal photography commenced on June 30, 2023, in Dublin, Ireland, under the working title “Abducting Abigail.” However, filming faced an unexpected hiatus in July due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. Tragically, Angus Cloud completed his scenes before his untimely death on July 31, 2023. Despite this setback, filming concluded on December 15 of the same year.
Mark your calendars for April 19, 2024, as Abigail promises to deliver an enthralling cinematic experience, blending horror, suspense, and supernatural elements in a tale that transcends the boundaries of a typical monster film.
