Kirsten Dunst revealed that filming the iconic upside-down kiss with Tobey Maguire in “Spider-Man” was “kind of miserable.” Despite director Sam Raimi’s efforts to make it special, including giving Dunst a book of famous kisses for inspiration, the scene was challenging. Dunst recalled the difficult conditions, with pouring rain and Tobey struggling to breathe. She likened the experience to resuscitating him.

Dunst portrayed Mary Jane Watson alongside Maguire’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Raimi’s 2002 blockbuster, leading to two successful sequels: 2004’s “Spider-Man 2,” hailed as one of the best superhero movies, and 2007’s “Spider-Man 3.” Reflecting on her experience, Dunst expressed regret for not speaking up for herself when labeled as a “girly-girl” on set, noting the pre-#MeToo era’s silence. Despite this, Dunst admitted she would return to the comic book world, citing financial support for her family. Maguire, who returned as Spider-Man in 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” expressed enthusiasm for future projects, echoing Dunst’s sentiment of fondness for the franchise. In a separate interview, Dunst affirmed her willingness to reprise her role as Mary Jane, embracing the idea of portraying an older character with Spidey offspring.

“It was a joke, but sometimes on the walkie-talkie on ‘Spider-Man’ they would call me “the girl with the girl.” “We need the girl with the girl.” However, I kept quiet,” Dunst commented. “Like, don’t approach me like that!”

Will Dunst return to the world of comic books anytime soon? “Yes,” Dunst replied to the magazine, “because I have two kids and I take care of my mom and you get a lot of money.”

In the 2021 Marvel tentpole “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, Maguire reprises his role as Spider-Man, alongside Andrew Garfield’s “Spider-Man” and Tom Holland’s “Spider-Man”. He has already declared himself open to more.

“I love these movies and every single series,” Maguire told Marvel. “What if I get a call from people asking if I can come over tonight to relax and have some fun? Or ‘Would you like to act in this movie, or read a line, or do a Spider-Man stunt?’ ‘ The answer would be “Yes!” So why wouldn’t I want to do that?

When asked by Variety about reprising the role of Mary Jane in 2021, Dunst said, “I would do it.” “Why not? It sounds like fun,” he continued. “At this point, with the little spiderlings, I’ll be old MJ.”
