Kris Jenner Actress

Kristen Mary Jenner, formerly known as Kristen Mary Houghton, was born on November 5, 1955, in San Diego, California. She’s an American media personality, socialite, and savvy businesswoman. Kris Jenner gained widespread recognition through her prominent role in the reality TV phenomenon “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” which aired from 2007 to 2021.

The immense success of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” paved the way for numerous spin-off series, such as “Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami,” “Kourtney and Kim Take New York,” “Khloe & Lamar,” “Rob & Chyna,” and “Life of Kylie.” Kris Jenner not only starred in these shows but also served as an executive producer, playing a pivotal role behind the scenes.

In addition to her TV ventures, Jenner briefly hosted her own daytime talk show named “Kris” in 2013, exploring various aspects of pop culture. After bidding farewell to E! in 2021, Kris Jenner and her family embarked on a new journey with “The Kardashians” on Hulu starting in 2022.

Kris Jenner’s family life is equally fascinating. From her first marriage to lawyer Robert Kardashian, she has four children: Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, and Robert. Her second marriage, to television personality and former Olympic athlete Bruce Jenner (now Caitlyn), blessed her with two more children: Kendall and Kylie. Together, they’ve expanded the family with 12 grandchildren.

Raised by her mother, M. J. Shannon, after her parents’ divorce when she was seven, Kris Jenner’s upbringing was supported by her mother’s remarriage to businessman Harry Shannon. This blended family dynamic also introduced Jenner to her stepbrother, Steven “Steve” Shannon.

As the executive producer of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” Kris Jenner played a pivotal role in bringing the intricacies of the Kardashian-Jenner clan to millions of viewers worldwide. Premiering on October 14, 2007, the show became a cultural phenomenon and one of the longest-running reality TV series in history.

Early and Personal Life

Born in San Diego, California, on November 5, 1955, Kristen Mary Jenner was the elder of two children to Mary Jo “M. J.” Shannon (née Campbell; born 1934), owner of a children’s clothing store, and Robert True “Bob” Houghton (1931–1975), an engineer. When Kristen was seven, her parents divorced, and she, along with her younger sister, Karen Casey (née Houghton; 1958–2024), were raised by their mother. Eventually, M. J. remarried businessman Harry Shannon (1926–2003), who became an integral part of their family. Through this union, Kristen gained a stepbrother, Steven “Steve” Shannon.

After a brief stint in Oxnard, California, where Shannon’s business partner absconded with their company’s funds, the family returned to San Diego. Kristen worked at Shannon & Company, her mother’s children’s clothing store, while attending Clairemont High School, graduating in 1973. Tragedy struck in 1975 when Kristen’s biological father passed away in a car accident when she was 19. Following this, she spent a year working as a flight attendant for American Airlines in 1976.

Kristen’s first marriage was to lawyer Robert Kardashian, with whom she had four children: Kourtney (born 1979), Kim (born 1980), Khloé (born 1984), and Rob (born 1987). Despite divorcing in March 1991, they maintained a close friendship until Robert’s death from esophageal cancer in 2003.

In April 1991, just a month after her divorce, Kristen married retired Olympian Bruce Jenner, who later publicly transitioned to Caitlyn Jenner in 2015. They have two daughters together, Kendall (born 1995) and Kylie (born 1997). Kristen also became a stepmother to Bruce’s four children from previous relationships.

The couple announced their separation in October 2013, with Kristen filing for divorce in September 2014, which was finalized in March 2015. Kristen revealed her surprise at Caitlyn’s gender identity revelation, stating that while she was aware of Caitlyn’s hormone use in the 1980s, gender was never explicitly discussed.

As of 2023, Kristen is a grandmother to twelve grandchildren and has been in a relationship with Corey Gamble since around 2014.

During the O. J. Simpson trial (1994–1995), Kristen and her family faced emotional turmoil, as she was a close friend of Nicole Brown Simpson, O.J. Simpson’s ex-wife, and Robert Kardashian was part of Simpson’s defense team. The trial was later dubbed the “Trial of the Century.” Kristen was portrayed by actress Selma Blair in the FX limited series “The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story,” which aired in February 2016.

In 2012, Kristen and Pastor Brad Johnson founded the California Community Church, originally known as the Life Change Community Church, situated in Agoura Hills, California.

Career

In 2007, Kris Jenner collaborated with Ryan Seacrest to explore the idea of a reality TV show centered around her family. Seacrest, with his own production company, saw potential in the concept, drawing inspiration from the success of family-focused shows like “The Osbournes.” Kris Jenner expressed her enthusiasm for the prospective series, envisioning it as a natural portrayal of the dynamics within her family, from the younger to the older generation, including her son.

The show was eventually picked up by the E! cable network, with Kris Jenner assuming the role of executive producer. Debuting on October 14, 2007, the series delved into the personal and professional lives of the Kardashian–Jenner blended families, becoming one of the longest-running reality television shows in the country.

In April 2022, Kris Jenner and her family made a comeback to television with their new reality show, “The Kardashians,” after departing from the E! Network to join Hulu. The series features Jenner alongside her daughters Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, Kendall, and Kylie, as well as past and present partners like Scott Disick, Travis Barker, Tristan Thompson, and Corey Gamble, with Kanye West making guest appearances. The show’s first season premiered on April 14, 2022, exclusively on Disney+, followed by subsequent seasons in 2022 and 2023.

In 2014, Kris Jenner and her youngest daughter Kylie ventured into the cosmetics industry, founding Kylie Lip Kits (now Kylie Cosmetics) in partnership with Seed Beauty. Their first product, the Kylie Lip Kits, debuted on November 30, 2015, marking the beginning of a highly successful venture. Renamed Kylie Cosmetics in February 2016, the company experienced rapid growth, reaching a revenue of over $300 million by the end of 2016. Jenner and Kylie’s collaboration, the Kris Kollection, released in May 2018, showcased products like the “Momager” Lip Kit, paying homage to Jenner’s role as the family’s matriarch.

Kris Jenner entrepreneurial journey is chronicled in her autobiography, “Kris Jenner… and All Things Kardashian,” released in November 2011, and further explored in her cookbook, “In the Kitchen with Kris: A Kollection of Kardashian-Jenner Family Favorites,” released in October 2014. Often hailed as the “matriarch” of the family, Kris Jenner strategic approach to her business endeavors is highlighted, emphasizing her role as a key player in shaping the Kardashian-Jenner brand.
